Mod Updater

Identify your Minecraft mod JARs and update them to any loader and game version.

Update your mods
Add one or more .jar files — each is hashed locally and matched against Modrinth, then choose a platform and version to grab updated downloads.

Click to select or drag .jar files here

Files are hashed entirely in your browser and never uploaded to any server.

Only mods indexed on Modrinth can be matched — CurseForge-exclusive mods won't be found. JARs that have been repackaged or modified won't match either, since matching relies on an exact file hash.

What is Mod Updater?

A browser tool that recognizes your installed mods and finds the right build for any Minecraft version.

Identify any JAR

Each .jar is fingerprinted with a SHA-1 hash and matched against Modrinth's database to find exactly which mod and version it is.

Update to any version

Pick a loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt) and a Minecraft version, and get the matching build's download link for every recognized mod.

Fully local

Your files are hashed inside your browser and never uploaded. The only requests are public Modrinth API lookups.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about identifying and updating your mods.

How does it recognize my mods?

It computes a SHA-1 hash of each .jar in your browser and looks it up in Modrinth's file database. A match tells us exactly which mod and version the file is.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Hashing happens entirely on your device. Only the resulting hashes are sent to Modrinth's public API — never the files themselves.

Why wasn't one of my mods found?

The mod may only be on CurseForge (not indexed by Modrinth), or the JAR was repackaged or modified so its hash no longer matches the original file.

What do the platform and version dropdowns do?

After your mods are identified, pick a loader and Minecraft version. The tool then finds the build of each mod that matches that combination, so you can download a consistent set.

Does it work with Forge and NeoForge?

Yes — Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt are all supported, as long as the mod publishes a matching build on Modrinth.
